My process

My process is divided in to four parts:

Making: I am throwing simple domestic objects from the process of a production potter. The making process also involve finding rawmaterials and processing them.

Deconstruction: To tear the objects apart and put them together in a new order, or to put them together when still very soft, to focus on the plasticity of the clay.

Firing: I fire my objects in a wood/salt kiln to get interesting paterns from the firing on the objects, I put coal, ash and sawdust and salt on the objects before fireing to decorate the objects deliberately and to push the clay to its limits and to deform on some parts and crack on some parts. Some time I refire the objects up to five times. For this purpose I have build a temporary kiln which can be opened in the middle of the firing to get more ash and coal and salt on the objects.

Grinding and sand blastering:  Further I grind or sandblaster the objects after firing to create contrasts between the different parts of the object.

The Basket series

This is a project i did some years ago. My idea was to let the clay show me the way it wanted to become.Together with the clay, i investigated the inner movement of the clay, the plasticity of the clay, how far can i go before it cracks.I can now see how important this project was for my current work. The inspiration for this project comes from the power of the nature, the creating forces that never stops, forever moving foreward though invisible for my eye.
